A Challenge & New Shoes...?

Monday, November 11, 2013

I am so glad to hear about the family. To answer your questions, I did use my debit card a couple weeks ago. It worked just fine. As far as sending money, I honestly don't know what to tell you... I probably just wouldn't or I would send it in a letter and not a package. Thanks so much for looking out for me.

Oh, and please tell everyone that I love receiving their emails. I am really, really sorry that I have not responded.  The internet here is so slow and we have to email our mission president very first thing, so that takes from our allotted time, etc. There just isn't enough time...

Well, this week was a lot lot lot better than the last two. We taught a lot more lessons and more of our investigators are serious about the church right now. But two of our best investigators are leaving the country. One is moving with her family to Bolivia. The other investigator is Ricardo, I have talked a lot about him. In order to separate and live the law of chastity, he is moving back to Brazil with his family. So it's a happy thing. Also, I was soo sooo soooo excited this week. I am trying to send a recording with the story, I hope it works. It's about one of our investigators, named Ana Glitz. (Hermana Arnell and Thacker have been trying to get back in contact with her, but there is never anyone home or no one answers.  This week when they stopped by, Ana's new housekeeper answered and let them in.  Ana has had surgery and has been unable to get out of bed. She was very happy to see them and had been hoping they would come back.  And she has read the Book of Mormon!) The members here are great! Oh! I had to give a talk this Sunday... It was a nightmare, but in the end, I think it was okay.

I have an idea, or challenge, for you....Open up Preach My Gospel to chapter 5, about the Book of Mormon. At the very last, where it has teaching and study ideas, read the one for mission presidents about a new Book of Mormon and marking the things about Christ. Our mission president challenged us to do that our first day here and he promised that if we did it in Spanish we would learn the language much faster! My first half hour of personal study is always spent doing this. It has been so awesome. You guys should try it! Anyway, I love you and miss you all. Thanks for the letters!

Love Hermana Thacker
This is what the roads in Paraguay look like.

This is a centipede! You thought I was joking about them being the size of a
hot dog, didn't you?!  Each one of these tiles is a 12 inch square!
(Hermana Thacker's mother just really hopes that this isn't where she lives!)

P.S. I am down to one pair of shoes! But I have found a solution...Crocs! Before you laugh or roll your eyes, let me explain.  They have crocs that are like flats. They are plain simple rubber and they come in many colors. I'm sending a picture to show you. A couple of the hermanas here have them and they are perfect! No socks required and they don't fall apart in the rain and the mud. And they are easy to clean! Just one problem, they don't have them in Paraguay!
(FYI - Just in case anyone knows a sister missionary getting ready to serve a mission in South America! We spent a lot of money on supposedly good shoes and wish someone could have told us what to buy.)
