Winter has Arrived!

Monday, May 26, 2014

Okay... I am apologizing. I just took a large sum of money out of my account. I am really sorry! I hope it's okay, but if I don't do it, I may not be returning to the States alive! Paraguay just got cold and really wet... really humildly-horribly-cold. And after freezing this week in my quarter-sleeved cardigans, rain jacket, and crocs.... I am going shopping for grandma sweaters, a coat, a pair of boots, and gloves if I can find them. After trying out the fleece tights that I brought (my new favorite ítem) with my crocs in the rain....brrrrrr, I made quite a fashion statement! Haha! Our house also doesn't have heating, and our regulation space heaters aren't there (they say we´ll get them this week)... So brushing our teeth is quite simple. We are shivering so violently that we don't really have to put in a lot of effort! It does make teaching a bit difficult. Everyone is curled up in their beds (no one has insulation here) and no one wants to have to get out of bed and go into the cold in order to answer the door... I don't blame them! Sorry enough complaining! OH! But I have to thank you mom.... The Stephen´s Peppermint Hot Chocolate and the packets from Grandma Great...kept me living this week... So yummy....and warm. They say it's between 45-55 still... But I don't believe them...haha! Okay, so Great Grandma sent me a Christmas stocking, but the stocking was real not a plastic bag. (One of the felt type you can buy from Walmart.) Anyway, I had the brilliant idea to fill it with rice, tie it off with one of my hair bands, and heat it up for a rice bag! It's great! And it works! I put it in the bottom of my bed every night and go to sleep. Then at 2 or 3 when I wake up because I am cold, I go heat it up again, turn on a propane burner to warm up my hands while I wait, and then put it back in my bed. But last night...I am not sure what happened, it started to melt, so I will have to find another way. I thought it was pretty creative!

As for one of the most spiritual and sad moments of the week, there´s Mirta. I should start of by saying that before the mission, when people proffessed to have dreams and vision, I rolled my eyes, thinking they were crazy and walked away. I have repented. Here it really has been a testimony to me that God speaks to us in many different ways. Mirta, has a rough life. She also has been sharing with the misisonaries for many years. This week when we passed she was anxiously waiting for us and had been for several days. She had a dream in which Christ came and spoke to her and lifted she and her youngest (4 yrs) son up into the heavens with him. I'm being very brief, but it was something very spiritual. As we sat in her small house and talked we helped her to understand that we have to follow him with all our hearts, and that the only way to live with him again is to be baptized. My companion began to speak, and promised her that if she would come to church the following day that she would know without a doubt what she needed to do. The spirit was so strong, and she was so excited. But she didn't come to church... She ended up getting into a fight with her husband. Satan works so hard. Sometimes I think we can't keep up, but God prepares little miracles for us every day to show us that we can.

We were finishing up this week and my companion was sick for a bit, so we haven't accomplished much and were a little down. We were praying to find someone prepared to hear the message. We were quite a ways from the central, town part of our área, when we saw a girl that we had contacted almost a month earlier. We began talking with her and her twin sister (they're 18) and it turns out that one of the few active youth is their best friend and she always invites them to church. WOW! It was so awesome. We taught them lesson one and one of them just kept repeating... Wow, I think I found what I have been looking for. I am so excited to see what happens with them.

Sorry again for the money. I miss you and love you all. Tell Mac I loved his dance and DaNelle that I am sorry that I missed graduation! LOVE YOU! Good luck with your yard work!

Winter has arrived! Hermana Boley all bundled up!

Hermana Thacker and Hermana Boley at a cementary in their area. It is also a place where many of the homeless people in the area hang out.
